KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 21 — The federal government collected RM45.9 million from the sale of particular automobile registration numbers in 2024, with half of the income directed in the direction of transport-related initiatives for low-income teams, the Transport Ministry mentioned yesterday.

“All proceeds from these gross sales have been channelled into the Consolidated Fund beneath the Finance Ministry, and subsequently, 50 per cent was allotted to the Transport Ministry for initiatives benefiting underprivileged teams,” the reply learn.
Among the many initiatives supported by the fund is the MyLesen programme — which covers driving check charges for B2 bike, Items Driving Licence, e-hailing, and taxi licences.
Moreover, the ministry mentioned it has allotted funds without spending a dime helmets for each adults and youngsters and the FLYsiswa initiative, which gives flight ticket subsidies for college students at public universities, polytechnics, matriculation faculties, and instructor coaching institutes.
A portion of the funds can also be getting used for Socso contributions beneath the Self-Employment Social Safety Scheme for taxi, rental automobile, and faculty bus drivers, making certain protection for work-related accidents.
The Transport Ministry famous that it had taken the initiative to sponsor the remaining 10 per cent of the insurance coverage contribution for these drivers by income generated from the ‘GOLD’ plate sequence gross sales.
“This measure ensures that self-employed drivers are adequately protected beneath the Self-Employment Social Safety Act 2017,” the reply added.
